Becoming a Project Member in AB (Teams Tab Registration)
Becoming a Project Member in AB (Teams Tab Registration)
Even if you are already a member of a Microsoft Teams channel, you must first visit the AB tab app to be registered as a project member and appear in assignment lists.
Overview
In AB, project membership is managed independently from your Microsoft Teams channel membership. Even though you may already belong to a Teams team or channel, you are not automatically registered as an AB project member until you visit the AB tab app at least once.
Why This Is Necessary
When you open the AB tab, the system securely retrieves your Microsoft account information (via Microsoft Entra ID) and links it to your organization and channel context. This ensures that:
- Your identity and permissions are verified
- You can be assigned to tasks
- Your comments and updates appear with your verified name
Without this initial registration, AB cannot recognize you as part of the project workspace.
How to Become a Project Member
- Go to the Teams channel where AB is installed.
- Click the “AB” tab at the top of the channel.
- Wait for the app to load — it will automatically register you as a member.
- After this, your name will appear in the “Assign To” list and other member dropdowns.
Tip: You only need to do this once per channel project. After registration, you can use AB features freely within Teams.
If You Don’t See a User in the Assignment List
If someone’s name does not appear in the task “Assignee” or “Mention” list:
- Ask them to open the AB tab app directly from the channel.
- Once they’ve done so, refresh your task list — they will now appear as a project member.
